Escape to the peace and tranquillity of the River Wey.
Revitalise your senses as you glide gently through leafy woodland and open fields, spotting graceful heron and darting kingfishers. Our boat is fully equipped to board wheelchair guests with ease, so they can enjoy the calming benefits of fresh country air at a relaxing pace. All ages and abilities are welcome on board. Let our qualified volunteer crew indulge you with complimentary hot and cold drinks and biscuits while they talk a little about the centuries old traditions and history of this special environment. Aimed particularly at disadvantaged people within the community and those with special needs or disabilities, a trip on Tranquility is an experience never forgotten. Groups of up to 12 people can be comfortably accommodated on board. Tranquility provides an ideal outing for residents of care homes, respite, therapy and rehab centres. Which is why many of our guests return year after year. |
Training days on the River Wey.
One Day Boating Course
This is an ideal activity for team-building for young people and adults alike. Our volunteer trainers are a friendly crowd, skilled at sharing their knowledge and creating a welcoming, supportive atmosphere on our floating classroom.
The course covers all the basics of how to crew Swingbridge1, including hands-on instruction in driving to qualify for a Swingbridge Certificate of Achievement. A one day boating skills course is also an excellent practical preparation for a canal boating holiday, or makes a great activity day with a difference for families or groups of friends.
Special rates are available for charities and multi-programmes – please ask for details!
Boat Handling Course
This is a longer course and leads to an accredited award from the NCBA. Training is over two or three days. Cost £120 per person.
Please contact us to arrange a Boat Handling Course.
Certificate in Community Boat Management
This is a course over three days for people with previous experience of boats to gain an NCBA skipper’s qualification.
The cost is £250 per person. We can also tailor make a training day to suit your requirements.
Please contact us to arrange a NCBA course.

Charlie's Story Charlie learnt how to crew on a training day on Tranquility From disaffected teenager to a motivated young man, Charlie has already come a long way since he joined our STEPS to 16 programme at our learning centre in Woking last October. Charlie , who is 15, joined the STEPS to 16 programme following a prolonged period excluded from school because of his behaviour. The programme provides education with a difference for young people whose chances in life are limited by their lack of success in school. Charlie explains how he has benefitted from the STEPS to 16 programme. “I was always in trouble for fighting and being disruptive at school. Classes were large and I was easily distracted. But I know kids who dropped out of school and ended up on drugs and I didn’t want to be like them so I joined STEPS. I’m not good all of the time but most days I work really hard – much harder than I ever did at school and now I want to train at Merrist Wood as a landscape gardener.” |
